Black Panther director says Chadwick Boseman's death nearly made him quit Hollywood
After the death of Black Panther star Chadwick Aaron Boseman on August 28, 2020, the Black Panther film director Ryan Coogler said he wanted to walk away from Hollywood.
He went further, “‘I didn’t know if I could make another movie period, [let alone] another Black Panther movie, because it hurt a lot. I was like, ‘Man, how could I open myself up to feeling like this again?'”
Coogler said the tragedy of Boseman’s death affected him so much that he would watch and re-watch old footage of himself with Boseman, and also watch interviews in which Boseman explained what it meant portraying T’Challa in the movie. This left him emotionally gutted, but resolved him to go on.
“I was poring over a lot of our conversations that we had, towards what I realised was the end of his life,” Coogler said. “I decided that it made more sense to keep going.”
The Sequel
Coogler has now created a sequel to the first Black Panther film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.
Many believe that this film will pack a powerful emotional punch for fans worldwide.
Tickets for Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are now available. The trailer is already out, too.
In the new trailer, the new Black Panther is unveiled. The silhouette of a woman is thereby revealed and Shuri (Letitia Wright) is prominently featured in the trailer.
Wakanda Forever stars Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Tenoch Huerta, Mabel Cadena, Alex Livinalli, and Martin Freeman. Ryan Coogler returns as Director.
