Winnie Nwagi responds to fans outrage over Azawi holding concert before her

The "Katono Katono" singer has responded to fans and the public questions about why her record label is organising a concert for fellow artist Azawi before hers.

Winnie Nwagi

Swangz Avenue has recently come under fire for seemingly neglecting Winnie Nwagi and not giving her the credit and treatment she deserves in favour of recent artist at the label. When they announced Azawi's concert slated for July 22 this year, fans immediately lashed out at the fact that she was getting a concert before Nwagi who has been at the label longer.

Nwagi said that she is surprised by these reactions but asked the public not to compare her brand with Azawi's, and to accord them their separate attention.

"I expected it. I expected many people to comment on it that way. But Azawi is Azawi, and Winnie Nwagi is Winnie Nwagi. These are two different artists," Nwagi said.

She also added that this should not cause any animosity because they are on the same side and when her time comes she will have the spotlight.

"Azawi is ready now, it’s her time and we’ll support her. I am also ready but it’s just not my time yet. When my time comes, I will also have my concert," she added.

Azawi's concert is named after her album "African Music" which came out recently and has received critical global and local acclaim, which might be why the label is capitalising on the moment to close it off with a stage performance.

Back in 2020, Winnie Nwagi teased fans with a comment about her intentions to hold a concert that same year but before her comment could amount to anything the COVID-19 pandemic stifled all activity in the country.

"2020, first of all, I want to fulfill the promise I made to my fans. I want to give them a concert because I’ve never held a concert before. I also have a lot of good music coming through," she said.

The "Kwata Esimu" singer has urged fans and the public to support Azawi in her moment to shine.
