Pastor Tom Mugerwa loses Shs300 million to thieves

According to the report, Pastor Mugerwa, who heads Mutundwe Christian Fellowship in Lubaga Division, filed a case at Munyonyo Police Post leading to the arrest of Innocent Mukisa, who is suspected to have masterminded the plot to steal the cash from the pastor's home in Munyonyo, a leafy Kampala suburb.

Mukisa has been Tom Mugerwa's personal assistant and so close to the extent that he'd be trusted to carry the bag that usually contains the pastor's money.

Innocent Mukisa was arrested from Mbarara where he had bought land and a car using the money, says the report.

After interrogation, he was transferred to Kabalagala Police Post before being taken to Makindye court. According to the report, one of Mukisa's relatives said that he is being framed. Mukisa also pleaded not guilty and he was remanded to Luzira Prison.

Mukisa hails from, Birere village, Kyera Parish in Isingiro District.

A 2021 report by The Investigator showed that Pastor Tom Mugerwa had lost about Shs270 million but only report the theft of Shs8 million to police, possibly to evade taxes. Most of this money is collected from the congregation, according to the report.

According to the same report, Mukisa was a suspect and he had been fired after Mugerwa suspected that he was being used as a spy by his (Mugerwa's) family member.

The cash theft sent the pastor into panic mode because the robbers had stolen the money and also fled with documents containing the pastor's bank transfers, showing wires north of Shs500 million.
