I don’t have ‘daddy issues’, ‘men are not easy’ - Sheebah Karungi

Musician Sheebah Karungi doesn't completely agree with people who claim she is against the marriage institution because she has daddy issues.

The term daddy issues has multiple definitions but it is usually used disparagingly to describe women with dysfunctional relationships with men because they never grew up with responsible fathers.

While appearing on Spark TV recently, Karungi said: "Maybe I have daddy issues. That could be the reason... But that's just an excuse. They are always looking for an explanation as to why a feminist is fighting for women's rights so they can feel good about their thinking. That one didn't have a father, that's what's disturbing her... How about you who is not taking care of your kids? Are you my father? You who is beating your wife, are you my father?"

She continued: "You are not my father but you are doing worse than what I know because I've never seen that... Men are not easy... They are not bad, but they are not easy. We need to empower a woman to work for herself and enjoy life. After achieving that and she no longer needs a man,... I want women to choose to be will men. Not be with them because they need them... That's where the problem is... I don't want to see a woman worry about what would happen to her if her relationship failed... If you're in a marriage and your husband treats you well, he respects you and your family, pays school fees for children,... You're happy, I wish you well... But if you know from the bottom of your heart that you're putting up appearances, [that's not the way to live]… Let's stop putting up appearances and save ourselves..."

She added: "I don't have issues with men... My closest friend right now is a man. There are good men out there, but there are bad men out there. What do you do when you find a bad man? Do you get stuck because you have no options?... That's not marriage, it's a prison... And for a man that makes a woman happy, I'm proud of you."

In multiple interviews, she has said that she'll never get married though she plans to have children at some point.
