This development follows promoters accusing Daddy Andre of missing booked events and Carlos is expected to align the singer's performance schedule.
Emma Carlos signs with Daddy Andre as booking manager
Emma Carlos has been assigned to handle Daddy Andre's bookings. Although Andre is under Black Market Records, Emma is going to handle all his bookings for shows.
Once one of the industry's biggest music managers, Emma has not been as active in the game as he used to be. Since the fall of music duo Goodlyfe when Radio passed, Emma quit the group and pursued other business.
The reason why an artist like Daddy Andre who is under a label can outsource booking tasks is because there are certain duties music managers do not do. Booking agents come into handle day-to-day career facilitation while managers look at the long-term goals. In this way, both entities can co-exist in an artist's career.
Difference between a booking manager and a manager
Booking manager
He identifies the right venues and festivals for the artist's brand. Books travel and prepares schedules.
A booking agent plan tours and announces to contacts, researches venues and events and maintains a good database of contacts which is constantly updated.
Follows up with the right promoters with a strategy for how and when (intervals) to contact promoters. Selects video/audio links to use for pitching to promoters and events organisers.
Staying on top of information and reacting to news and making sure that all relevant promoters are aware of it.
Setting a price and taking care of hospitality. They typically work with Managers on this.
Finding and collaborating with other local agents.
A booking agent can work with different clients.
Managers
An artist manager has a more multifaceted and comprehensive job. They mainly create opportunities for artists, devise and execute a strategy. They orchestrate the artist to excel artistically and image-wise.
They create a state of organisation from which artists do their creative work is easily.
They take care of decisions and bad news that the artist doesn't want to attend to.
A manager coordinates the efforts of each individual on the team; agents, publishers, Public Relations etc. Making sales calls and pitches and negotiating contracts.
"Managers need to truly believe in their artists. To be an objective sounding board for the artist, being able to say so when a product or track isn’t good enough. To be critical to the outside world with tact. Maintaining the belief in the inevitable success in the future."
Emma Carlos has managed other acts like Wafagio, Dream Gals, Coco Finger and Khalifa Aganaga.
