Bugingo is accused of committing bigamy and contracting marriage by customary law while he is still legally married to Teddy Naluswa under the Marriage Act.
Bugingo and Makula granted bail
The High Court set today January 21st for the hearing of lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi’s application where he wanted to block the Director of Public Prosecutions [DPP] decision of taking over city pastor Aloysius Bugingo’s case.
On the other side, Suzan Makula is charged with contracting marriage to a person whom she knows well that he legally married to another woman.
While appearing before court today, the couple has pleaded not guilty to charges against them.
Bugingo and Makula have now been granted a cash bail of Shs 3 million and their sureties will have to pay Shs 10 million.
The Director of Public Prosecutions [DPP] has also been allowed to take over the case from private prosecutors of Male Mabirizi and his colleague Roger Rutaro.
Lawyer Male Mabirizi and Roger Rutaro had earlier this week filed a case at the court challenging the decision by [DPP] to take over the criminal case against Bugingo at the Entebbe Magistrate's court saying he is unserious and only wants to kill the case.
